Patient Briefs
The Action Island
The Action Island is a floating interface that appears at the top of your screen when using Cleo. It provides quick access to patient information, clinical actions, and powerful features—all without leaving your current page.
Overview
Section titled “Overview”The Action Island is a small, pill-shaped control panel that floats at the top-center of your screen (similar to Apple’s Dynamic Island). It stays visible as you navigate, giving you constant access to:
- Patient context at a glance
- Clinical action suggestions
- Background task progress
- Quick access to Cleo features
When no patient is selected, it shows “Cleo ready” with a checkmark.
Patient Context
Section titled “Patient Context”When you open a patient’s chart, the Action Island displays the patient’s name, age, and sex (e.g., “67M”). Click the patient badge to open a detailed flyout showing allergies, conditions, medications, vitals, and recent labs—a quick clinical summary without navigating away.
| Flyout Section | Information |
|---|---|
| Allergies | Drug allergies with severity |
| Conditions | Active diagnoses |
| Medications | Current meds with dosages |
| Vitals | BP, heart rate, temp, SpO2 |
| Labs | A1c, glucose, creatinine |
Action Chips
Section titled “Action Chips”When Cleo identifies something needing attention, it appears as an action chip—a small clickable button. Click to execute, or click the X to dismiss. High-priority actions have a red border.
Action chips expire after 60 seconds to keep the interface focused. When multiple actions are queued, you’ll see a badge like “1 of 3”—click it to see all pending actions.
Keyboard shortcuts: Arrow keys to navigate between actions, Enter to execute, Delete to dismiss.
Task Trackers
Section titled “Task Trackers”When Cleo works in the background (like fetching from multiple EHRs), a tracker appears showing progress:
| State | Appearance | Meaning |
|---|---|---|
| Pending | Amber dot | Starting soon |
| In Progress | Blue ring | Running |
| Success | Green check | Done |
| Error | Red X | Failed |
Trackers show the task name and progress, and disappear automatically after completion.
Menu Options
Section titled “Menu Options”Click the menu button (three dots) to access:
Explore (Experimental) — Maps your EHR system to discover all screens and navigation paths. Takes about 2 minutes. After completion, click “View Map” to see results. Learn more →
Navigate (Experimental) — Jump directly to any EHR section by typing what you need (e.g., “schedule”, “labs”). Requires running Explore first. Learn more →

Tips — Helpful tips for workflow, features, and keyboard shortcuts.
Customization
Section titled “Customization”Moving the island: Click and hold the drag handle (dot grid icon), drag to your preferred position, and release. Double-click the handle to reset to center. Your position is saved across sessions.
Auto-minimize: When you click into text fields or start typing, the Action Island shrinks and becomes semi-transparent to stay out of your way. It returns to normal when you click elsewhere.
Patient Briefs
Section titled “Patient Briefs”When you open a patient chart, Cleo prepares a Patient Brief—a clinical summary with care gaps and important findings. The Action Island notifies you when a brief is ready.
Troubleshooting
Section titled “Troubleshooting”- Refresh the page
- Check you’re on a configured EHR site
- Verify Cleo has site permissions in Settings
- Make sure you’re on a patient chart (not a list)
- Wait for the page to fully load
- Try navigating away and back
- Actions only appear when Cleo detects something relevant
- Check the side panel for more details
