The Action Island

The Action Island is a floating interface that appears at the top of your screen when using Cleo. It provides quick access to patient information, clinical actions, and powerful features—all without leaving your current page.

The Action Island is a small, pill-shaped control panel that floats at the top-center of your screen (similar to Apple’s Dynamic Island). It serves as your command center for:

  • Viewing patient context at a glance
  • Executing clinical actions
  • Monitoring background tasks
  • Accessing Cleo features

When you open a patient’s chart, the Action Island automatically displays the patient’s information.

  • Patient name (click to see more details)
  • Age and sex (e.g., “67M” or “45F”)
  • Status indicator showing Cleo is active

Click the patient badge to open a detailed flyout showing:

SectionInformation
AllergiesDrug allergies with severity indicators
ConditionsActive diagnoses and problems
MedicationsCurrent medications with dosages
VitalsRecent BP, heart rate, temperature, SpO2
LabsKey results like A1c, glucose, creatinine

This gives you a quick clinical summary without navigating away from your current page.

When you’re not viewing a patient chart, the Action Island shows “Cleo ready” with a checkmark, indicating it’s active and waiting.

When Cleo identifies something that needs your attention, it appears as an action chip in the Action Island.

  • Small clickable buttons with a label (e.g., “Check Interaction”, “Review Alert”)
  • High-priority actions have a red border
  • Each chip has a small “X” to dismiss without acting
  • Click the chip to execute the action
  • Click the X to dismiss without acting
  • Hover to see more details

When multiple actions are queued:

  • The Action Island shows the first action with a badge (e.g., “1 of 3”)
  • Click the badge to see all pending actions
  • Use arrow keys to navigate between actions

When Cleo is working on something in the background, you’ll see a tracker in the Action Island.

ErrorRed XTask failed
  • Task name (e.g., “Multi-EHR extraction”)
  • Current status or progress
  • Abort button for cancellable tasks

Trackers automatically disappear a few seconds after completion.

Click the menu button (three dots) to access Cleo’s main features:

You can reposition the Action Island anywhere on screen:

  1. Click and hold the drag handle (the dot grid icon on the left).

  2. Drag the Action Island to your preferred position.

  3. Release to drop it in place.

To reset position: Double-click the drag handle to return it to the top-center.

When you click into a text field or start typing, the Action Island automatically:

  • Shrinks slightly and becomes semi-transparent
  • Hides non-essential elements
  • Stays out of your way while you work
  • Returns to normal when you click elsewhere

The Action Island adapts based on what you’re doing:

  • On patient chart: Shows patient info and relevant actions
  • On schedule: Shows scheduling-related options
  • During data entry: Minimizes to avoid distraction

When you open a patient chart, Cleo automatically prepares a Patient Brief—a clinical summary with care gaps and important findings. The Action Island may show a notification when a brief is ready, and you can access it through the menu.
