Patient Briefs
The Action Island
The Action Island is a floating interface that appears at the top of your screen when using Cleo. It provides quick access to patient information, clinical actions, and powerful features—all without leaving your current page.
What Is the Action Island?
Section titled “What Is the Action Island?”The Action Island is a small, pill-shaped control panel that floats at the top-center of your screen (similar to Apple’s Dynamic Island). It serves as your command center for:
- Viewing patient context at a glance
- Executing clinical actions
- Monitoring background tasks
- Accessing Cleo features
Patient Context
Section titled “Patient Context”When you open a patient’s chart, the Action Island automatically displays the patient’s information.
What You’ll See
Section titled “What You’ll See”- Patient name (click to see more details)
- Age and sex (e.g., “67M” or “45F”)
- Status indicator showing Cleo is active
Patient Details Flyout
Section titled “Patient Details Flyout”Click the patient badge to open a detailed flyout showing:

This gives you a quick clinical summary without navigating away from your current page.
No Patient Selected
Section titled “No Patient Selected”When you’re not viewing a patient chart, the Action Island shows “Cleo ready” with a checkmark, indicating it’s active and waiting.
Action Chips
Section titled “Action Chips”When Cleo identifies something that needs your attention, it appears as an action chip in the Action Island.
What Action Chips Look Like
Section titled “What Action Chips Look Like”- Small clickable buttons with a label (e.g., “Check Interaction”, “Review Alert”)
- High-priority actions have a red border
- Each chip has a small “X” to dismiss without acting
Using Action Chips
Section titled “Using Action Chips”- Click the chip to execute the action
- Click the X to dismiss without acting
- Hover to see more details
Multiple Actions
Section titled “Multiple Actions”When multiple actions are queued:
- The Action Island shows the first action with a badge (e.g., “1 of 3”)
- Click the badge to see all pending actions
- Use arrow keys to navigate between actions
Keyboard Shortcuts
Section titled “Keyboard Shortcuts”| Key | Action |

Task Trackers
Section titled “Task Trackers”When Cleo is working on something in the background, you’ll see a tracker in the Action Island.
Tracker States

What Trackers Show
Section titled “What Trackers Show”- Task name (e.g., “Multi-EHR extraction”)
- Current status or progress
- Abort button for cancellable tasks
Trackers automatically disappear a few seconds after completion.
The Menu
Section titled “The Menu”Click the menu button (three dots) to access Cleo’s main features:
Explore
Section titled “Explore”Maps your entire EHR system to discover all available screens and navigation paths. Great for learning a new EHR or finding hidden features.
- Shows real-time progress as screens are discovered
- Takes about 2 minutes to complete
- After completion, click “View Map” to see results

Navigate
Section titled “Navigate”Quickly jump to any section of your EHR without clicking through menus.
- Type what you’re looking for (e.g., “schedule”, “labs”)
- Select from suggested destinations
- Requires running Explore first to discover destinations

Multi-EHR
Section titled “Multi-EHR”Fetch patient data from all your configured EHR systems at once.
- Only available when viewing a patient
- Opens tabs to fetch from each EHR (tabs close automatically when done)
- Shows progress and handles login prompts

Opens a popup with helpful tips organized by category:
- Workflow tips — How to use Cleo effectively
- Feature tips — What each feature does
- Efficiency tips — Keyboard shortcuts and time-savers
Moving the Action Island
Section titled “Moving the Action Island”You can reposition the Action Island anywhere on screen:

Click and hold the drag handle (the dot grid icon on the left).

Drag the Action Island to your preferred position.

Release to drop it in place.
To reset position: Double-click the drag handle to return it to the top-center.
Smart Behaviors
Section titled “Smart Behaviors”Auto-Minimize When Typing
Section titled “Auto-Minimize When Typing”When you click into a text field or start typing, the Action Island automatically:
- Shrinks slightly and becomes semi-transparent
- Hides non-essential elements
- Stays out of your way while you work
- Returns to normal when you click elsewhere
Context Awareness
Section titled “Context Awareness”The Action Island adapts based on what you’re doing:
- On patient chart: Shows patient info and relevant actions
- On schedule: Shows scheduling-related options
- During data entry: Minimizes to avoid distraction
Relationship to Patient Briefs
Section titled “Relationship to Patient Briefs”When you open a patient chart, Cleo automatically prepares a Patient Brief—a clinical summary with care gaps and important findings. The Action Island may show a notification when a brief is ready, and you can access it through the menu.

Troubleshooting
Section titled “Troubleshooting”- Refresh the page
- Check that you’re on a configured EHR site
- Verify Cleo has permissions for the site in Settings
- Make sure you’re on a patient chart (not a list)
- Wait for the page to fully load
- Try navigating away and back to the chart
- Actions only appear when Cleo detects something relevant
- Check the side panel for more detailed information
- Some actions require specific page contexts
