Cleo Extension Overview
Cleo is a Chrome browser extension that acts as your AI clinical assistant. It works alongside you in your EHR — automatically capturing patient data, surfacing clinical insights, and helping you with tasks through natural conversation.
What Cleo Does
Section titled “What Cleo Does”When you open a patient chart in your EHR, Cleo automatically:
- Detects the patient from the page you’re viewing
- Captures demographics, medications, labs, conditions, allergies, vitals, and documents
- Surfaces a Smart Brief with clinical insights, care gaps, and actionable findings
- Syncs everything to the Aether Hub in real-time
Beyond passive capture, Cleo is a conversational assistant you can ask questions, request clinical lookups, generate prior authorization letters, and more.

Automatic Data Capture
Patient data is captured as you work. Cleo reads the pages you visit and extracts structured clinical data without manual entry.
Document Ingestion
PDFs, faxes, and clinical documents are automatically detected, uploaded, and processed with OCR. View and reference them in the Hub.
Clinical Tools
Drug interactions (38,000+ database), FDA drug label lookups, Medicare Part D coverage checks, and prior authorization letter generation with evidence.
EHR Automation
Navigate your EHR, fill forms, place orders, and execute multi-step workflows using natural language commands.
Data Captured
Section titled “Data Captured”Cleo captures the following from patient charts:

The Side Panel
Section titled “The Side Panel”The side panel is your main interface with Cleo. Open it by clicking the Cleo icon in your browser toolbar.
- Chat with Cleo — Ask about patients, look up drugs, check interactions, generate PA letters, or get clinical summaries
- Smart Briefs — Multi-patient clinical summaries with actionable headlines and care gap detection
- Document Tracker — See upload progress for detected documents
- Conversation History — Search and revisit past conversations
- Settings — Configure EHR systems and preferences
You don’t need to keep the side panel open while working. The Action Island floats on your EHR pages and provides quick access to patient context and clinical insights without opening the panel.
Privacy & Security
Section titled “Privacy & Security”Cleo is designed with healthcare privacy requirements in mind.
Encryption: All patient data is encrypted using AES-256-GCM before leaving your browser. Data remains encrypted in transit and at rest.
No credential storage: Cleo never stores, transmits, or has access to your EHR login credentials. You authenticate directly with your EHR — Cleo only reads data from pages you’re already logged into.
User-initiated capture: Cleo only captures data from patient charts you actively view. It does not run in the background or access pages you haven’t opened.
Audit logging: All data access is logged for HIPAA compliance.
