Patient Briefs

Patient Briefs are automated clinical summaries that Cleo prepares when you open a patient’s chart. They surface important information and care gaps without requiring any manual action.

When you navigate to a patient’s chart, Cleo automatically analyzes the available clinical data and prepares a brief summary. This brief highlights:

  • Key clinical information relevant to the visit
  • Care gaps that may need attention
  • Important medication considerations
  • Recent lab results and vital signs

A brief 2-3 sentence summary answering: “Who is this patient clinically and what’s important for today’s visit?”

Gaps in preventive care or ongoing management, such as:

  • Overdue vaccinations
  • Missing screenings (e.g., HbA1c for diabetics)
  • Blood pressure not at goal
  • Eye or foot exams due

Cleo calculates and displays:

  • eGFR with CKD staging — flagged if kidney function is reduced
  • BMI with category — flagged if underweight or obese

When applicable, briefs highlight:

  • Potential drug interactions
  • Medications that may need renal dose adjustments
  • Formulary or insurance coverage issues

Briefs display in two ways depending on the content:

For routine briefs, a card appears in the side panel with:

  • The clinical overview
  • A list of findings and care gaps
  • Options to dismiss or snooze

If the brief contains critical findings (like a severe drug interaction), it may appear more prominently to ensure you don’t miss it.

Briefs appear automatically when you open a patient chart. You can also:

  1. Look for the Action Island floating at the top of your screen.

  2. Click the menu icon to open the actions dropdown.

  3. Select View Brief to open the full brief in a larger view.

  • Dismiss — Closes the brief. It won’t reappear for this patient during the current session.
  • Snooze — Temporarily hides the brief. It may appear again later if you return to the chart.

Some care gaps include actionable suggestions. Click on a recommended action to learn more or take the next step.

Briefs are generated when you:

  • Open a patient’s chart
  • Navigate to order entry for a patient
  • Review results for a patient
